Who says that Lupita is "too little"? Not Chief Cobb, the friendly policeman. Not Mrs. Foote, the local gas station owner. Not even Mr. Grabb, the strange new visitor to town. But Mama always sighs, "Muy, muy chica, " every time Lupita tries to help out at the restaurant that Mama runs all by herself. And yet, when push comes to shove--or, in this case, when Grabb comes to swipe--everyone in this bilingual tale for ages 3 to 7 discovers that, although Lupita may be too little for some tasks, for others she is big enough. With vivid illustrations that delightfully enhance the story, Big Enough/ Bastante grande evokes the yearning for growing independence of every child. This entertaining, action-filled tale will have children and adults alike panting for breath as they try to keep up with Lupita, racing along toward an exciting conclusion.

Listen to Vienna Rose read Big Enough to you. A marvelous example of the magical encounter between a child and books that we wish for all children.
School Library Journal : PreSchool-Grade 2, Lupita is sure that she is big enough to help at her mother's Mexican restaurant, but her mother doesn't agree. "Too, too little," and "Muy, muy chica," she says. Of course, the girl proves that she is indeed "bastante grande" and "big enough" when she catches a thief and spoils his attempt to steal the family's prized pinata. The plot of this Spanish/English bilingual picture book is somewhat contrived, but it is still enjoyable. Although Sanchez is one of the most distinguished Hispanic picture book illustrators in the United States, these illustrations fall short of his usual outstanding work. Many of the full-paged drawings lack his typical luminescence and tenderness, and some of the characters' faces are stiff and unrealistic. An additional purchase.
